Bring Your Own Mug
Did you know that over 50 billion paper cups are tossed in the trash every year in the U.S.? That's a lot of trees! These cups are not recyclable or compostable because they are lined with plastic. The solution - a reusable mug!

Action Steps & Tips
Introduction
According to the National Coffee Association USA, Americans use 120 billion disposable cups a year. By replacing one disposable coffee cup with a reusable mug every day for one year, you save:
-
Up to 30 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions
-
281 gallons water
-
16 lbs of waste
-
1 tree
You can also save $36 a year if you’re visiting a café that offers a $0.10 discount for a reusable mug!
Bringing your own mug is a no-brainer, and one of the easiest ways we can reduce waste!
1Choose your mug
Choose a mug that fits your needs. Choose a mug that you like and that will be easy to bring along. There are many great options that will keep your coffee or hot drink warm and travel ready.
Extra Credit. Go a step further and pick up a used mug at a thrift store or a mug created from recycled, long-lasting materials. Remember, only buy as many as you really need!
2Bring your mug!
Use that mug. Once you’ve chosen a reusable mug, don’t forget it! Include it in the "keys-wallet-phone" check before leaving the house!
Once you’re at the cafe, all you have to do is tell the cashier you’d like to use your own reusable mug and give it to the barista to fill. Bonus - your drink will stay warm (or cold) for longer than a paper cup.
Congrats! Now go hug the tree you saved!
